DESCRIPTION:WINDY CITY WINDS FALL 2024 CONCERT – “BY REQUEST” \nLIVESTREAM Link \nConcert Program Link \n  \nCelebrating the start of our 10th season\, Windy City Winds will perform our Fall Concert on Friday evening\, November 22\, 2024\, at 7:30 pm at St. Pauls United Church of Christ\, 2335 N. Orchard in Chicago’s Lincoln Park neighborhood. \nThe theme of our concert is “By Request: Music Suggested by Band Members”. Each year we ask all band members for their music recommendations. Our concert will feature music by Edward Elgar (Enigma Variations)\, Frank Ticheli (Vesuvius)\, Ryan George (Firefly)\, Claude T. Smith (Emperata Overture)\,  Julius Fucik (Florentiner March)\, and the Midwest premiere of a new work by Aaron Perrine (To Hope). \nAdmission is free and the concert will be Livestreamed at www.windycitywinds.org/concerts.  Come and hear “Chicago’s Community Band!”

DESCRIPTION:  \n  \n  \nWindy City Winds is proud to present an evening of symphonic band music celebrating American heroes past and present\, featuring 10-year-old violin soloist Sylvia Pine! \nDescribed as “adorable and formidable” by the Illinois Times\, Sylvia has been playing violin since the age of two and has received global recognition for her playing\, including winning first prize in over 30 international competitions. She will make her solo debut with Windy City Winds performing Massenet’s “Meditation from Thais” and Wieniawski’s “Obertass Mazurka”. \nThe evening will also feature selections from the documentary series “Victory at Sea”\, along with “American Salute” by Morton Gould\, “Eternal Father\, Strong to Save (The Navy Hymn)” by Claude T. Smith\, and “American Hymnsong Suite” by Dwayne S. DESCRIPTION:Fall 2017 Concert by the Windy City Winds\n“American Originals”   \nMark Mosley\, conductor\nSarah Good Mosley\, conductor \nWindy City Winds\, “Chicago’s Community Band”\, begins their third season performing their Fall Concert\, “American Originals”\, on Friday evening November 17\, 2017 at St. Pauls United Church of Christ\, 2335 N. Orchard St. in the Lincoln Park neighborhood.  The concert will begin at 7:30 pm.  The band will be conducted by its co-founders Mark Mosley and Sarah Good Mosley.  The concert will feature band member Eon Cooper as euphonium soloist.  Admission is free\, although donations are welcome. \nDirections and Parking for the Windy City Winds Concert \nOur concert is at St. Pauls United Church of Christ\, 2335 N. Orchard\, Chicago IL — on the corner of Orchard and Fullerton\, across the street from the former site of Children’s Hospital in Lincoln Park\, one block east of DePaul University. \nFrom Lake Shore Drive\, take Fullerton west past Clark Street to the first stop sign at Geneva. Turn left and take Geneva south one half block to the next stop sign at Kemper Drive. Turn right and take Kemper Driver (a skinny one way street) and park for free in the church parking lot on the right. Continue walking down Kemper and enter the sanctuary at the corner. \nIf the parking lot is full\, continue down Kemper\, turn right on Orchard and turn left at Fullerton. Take Fullerton west into the left turn lane at the stop light at Halsted and Lincoln. Turn a hard left onto Lincoln and go south to the Lincoln Commons Parking Garage. Turn right into the parking for additional parking. Then walk across Lincoln and south to Orchard\, turn left and walk a half block to the church sanctuary entrance. \nNote that most street parking in the neighborhood requires a permit\, so be careful where you park.

American Overture — this is a very up-tempo piece\, full of optimism and features our French horns — sounds like a Western movie\n2. Second Prelude by George Gershwin — slow and bluesy\, not very long\, very easy listening\n3. Pineapple Poll\, last movement — this is from a suite of melodies from Gilbert and Sullivan operettas — it’s fast and fun and very upbeat\, in an old fashioned way\n4. Belle of Chicago March — written by John Philip Sousa for the Columbian Exposition of 1893\, where the Sousa Band was the featured “orchestra”\n5. Chicago\, Selections from the musical — “All That Jazz” and more\, very familiar songs by Kander and Ebb\n6. The Red Covered Bridge — a sweet Norman Rockwell sound portrait of Princeton\, Illinois written by Illinois composer Robert Sheldon\, named after the town’s landmark\n7. Take Me Out to the Ballgame — sing-a-long\, since the Cubs are hot\n8. The National Fame — another Sousa march\, written about baseball\, Sousa’s favorite sport\, written for the commissioner of baseball Judge Kennesee Mountain Landau\, who handled the Black Sox scandal of 1919 and “saved baseball” — features a woodblock mimicking the sound of a bat hitting a ball\n9. Chicago — That Toddlin’ Town — a jazzy arrangement of the very familiar song\n10. America the Beautiful — a lush and inspiring arrangement by Carmen Dragon
