Event Navigation
Our fall concert will celebrate our 5th season by opening with one of the most popular works from our past 4 seasons, Festive Overture by Shostakovich. “World Travels” will feature music from Russia, Australia, China, England, West Africa, Argentina, and Mexico. We are proud to feature our own Keegan White as soprano saxophone soloist on Astor Piazzolla’s elegiac tango Oblivion.
Our season will feature composers of color, including music by Dr. Shawn Okpebholo, professor of music at Wheaton College, Major Dwayne S. Milburn (US Army, retired), and Chinese-American female composer Chen Yi. We also will be working with talented young Chicago composer Joon Park on a new composition.
Our programs will feature 9 original works for band, including works by Gustav Holst, Percy Grainger, John Mackey, John Barnes Chance, Claude T. Smith, and Chicago composer James Stephenson. Our arrangements are by the very best arrangers for wind band, including Donald Hunsberger, Robert Reynolds, John Krance and Robert Russell Bennett.
