March 10 Winter Concert

Come and hear this great band at St. Pauls United Church of Christ on March 10, 2017 at 7:30 pm. Our winter concert will feature symphonic band transcriptions of great orchestral works by Russian composers, including Shostakovich, Stravinsky, Chesnokov, Gliere and Tchaikovsky. Thomas Madeja will be the featured soloist in the Trumpet Concerto by Alexander Arutunian. The concert will be conducted by the band’s co-founders Mark Mosley and Sarah Good Mosley.

Thomas Madeja is a renowned professional trumpet player and teacher in Chicago and a member of Windy City Winds. Mr. Madeja earned degrees in trumpet performance from the University of Illinois and Baylor University. He is the artistic director of the Chicago Metamorphosis Orchestra Project (, a non-profit organization providing free instruments and free music instruction daily after school to underserved elementary students in Chicago Public Schools.

Get ready, band! We are playing music from the film Silverado for our “At the Movies” outdoor concert, Sunday afternoon June 12th at 3:00 pm at the Lincoln Park Zoo. Sarah and Mark attended a concert Friday night 5/6 by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra where the CSO played the soundtrack live with the film — very exciting! The composer Bruce Boughton was present, and he gave a pre-concert lecture, which we also attended. In fact, after this picture was taken, he signed our score!

Lincoln Portrait Concert

The theme of our next concert is “Lincoln Portrait”, and the program includes Aaron Copland’s Lincoln Portrait, narrated by the Rev. Matt Fitzgerald, senior pastor at St. Pauls United Church of Christ. The concert also features other American music, including five of Copland’s Old American Songs, with vocal soloists Breanna Coe, Todd Coe, Lee Lichamer and Nancy Pifer.

Mark you calendars!! The concert is on Friday, April 29th at 7:30 pm at St. Pauls United Church of Christ.
